C-Space Mission and Vision
Mission Statement
C-Space is an independent group building a community center in Cleveland to inspire community-initiated educational, creative, political and social projects. C-Space organizes to increase meaningful day-to-day interactions between people and to expand our individual and united power over our own lives by promoting cooperation, shared resources, and projects that bridge gaps between people. All community members are invited to initiate programs and directly participate in C-Space decision-making.
C-Space also provides a space for social justice groups to operate, in order to stimulate interaction between isolated organizations and to facilitate connections with community allies. We recognize that new development in neighborhoods can often cause displacement of low-income residents, and are committed to improvements that have a clear focus on community issues and that support tenants' rights.
C-Space will emphasize collaborative, innovative programs, projects, and accessible resources that fulfill needs in the local community. Some of these might include but are not limited to a community school, computer lab, library and tool library, art resources, and a performance venue. C-Space's mission is to imaginatively contribute to our shared community by creating a welcoming, respectful environment for people to work, plan, exchange ideas, combine resources, and help each other.
Vision Statement
C-Space aims to enable further interaction between members of the greater Cleveland community and social justice activists in a way that fosters the ideas of cooperation, equality, and grassroots community action. C-Space seeks to be a gathering place for people to work, plan, share, and generally help each other through various projects, programs, and accessible resources. We will strive to create an open, diverse space that builds understanding between people of all races, genders, sexes, sexualities, and backgrounds. We intend to cultivate an atmosphere that encourages fresh ideas and simultaneously assists in individual and collective development. At all times we will work to maintain direct decision making, an ethic of self empowerment, open communication and a transparency that encourages participation on all levels of C-Space. We will take all measures to be an asset to the local community, opening the decision-making process and providing resources desired by and appropriate to the neighborhood where we are located. Our operations will be sustainable socially, economically, and environmentally. The desire for a new society not based on exploitation, oppression, and control of the many for the profit of a few is at the heart of C-Space and its members.
