The Food Chain is a weekly cooking instruction program for Clark-Fulton youth ages 9-16 offered at C-Space, a community center at Clark and West 44th Street.

Every Wednesday afternoon, area chefs teach a rotating group of 2-4 students how to cook nutritious full menus, using fresh local produce. Meals cooked during the program are served to Clark-Fulton residents at community dinners held at C-Space. Food Chain students and area youth are involved in all levels of the meal, from prep to clean-up.

This program aims to increase kitchen skills among young people in Clark-Fulton, while exposing students to an array of appealing, nutritious foods. Instructors create menus that use a variety of preparation techniques, so that students come out of the program with a well-rounded knowledge of how to work their way around a kitchen.

Beyond offering youth a creative opportunity to learn skills that can be practically applied for a lifetime, the Food Chain also aims to build community in Clark-Fulton through dinner gatherings, nutritional workshops and exposure to programs like City Fresh that provide healthy produce to urban residents.
