We accept most books of decent quality, but here are some things we're looking for:
- New and paperback books are always preferred due to prison restrictions
- English dictionaries and translating dictionaries
- Thesauruses
- African and African American history, politics, culture, etc. (esp. civil rights era)
- Prison issues
- Radical politics (Anarchist theory and application, Black Liberation Movements, etc)
- Paganism, Wicca
- Real Estate
- Starting your own small business
Cleveland Books to Prisoners is committed to seeking radical change in the way our society deals with issues of criminality and justice. We view the prison-industrial complex as a major demonstration of authoritarianism in our society as well as a significant threat to the goal of liberation of all peoples from the effects of racism and the class structure. Meant as one tactic of many in the struggle against this system, books to prisoners programs all over the country hope to provide incarcerated people the opportunity to escape the criminalizing and dehumanizing conditions they face. Please join us in this work.
